Sturdy English farmers, hardy German canal builders, proud and free black citizens, Irish railroaders, solid laborers from the southern states and immigrants from scores of different cultures far from our borders all had a hand in building the record of achievement we salute today. Visionary leadership and hard work have combined to create a string of successes and a quality of life virtually no other community our size can match. The story line has remained the same, from the canal era beginning in the mid-1830s to present-day twenty-first century. Shelby County is no ordinary place to call home. Sylvia Grot, a resident of Shelby Township (in Macomb County), is seeking election in the 36 th House District, which was vacated in November when Doug Wozniak (R-Shelby Twp.) was elected in a special election for the State Senate. Steven Gilbert, a resident of Walker (in Kent County), is seeking election in the 74 th House District, which was vacated in November when Mark Huizenga (R-Walker) was elected in a special election to fill a vacancy in the State Senate. The House special elections are scheduled for March 1 (primary election) and May 3 (general election). Tom Leonard is vying for the Republican party’s nomination at the April 23 GOP convention and hoping to take on current AG, Dana Nessel, in November.

The Michigan Chamber of Commerce today announced its endorsements of Tom Leonard for Attorney General, as well as Steven Gilbert and Sylvia Grot for the special elections in the 74 th and 36 th Michigan House districts, respectively.
